HealthAlliance Hospital Relay for Life Team Raises over $12,000

Leominster, MA – The HealthAlliance Hospital Bearly Ables Team participated in the Greater Gardner Relay for Life at Mount Wachusett Community College last weekend. This marks the 22nd year that HealthAlliance Hospital has participated in this great event. The Greater Gardner Relay is one of the largest Relay for Life events, ranking #1 in New England and consistently in the top 15 in the world.
The history of the Relay for Life dates back to May 1985, when Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight one of the nation’s biggest health concerns.  The following year, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Over the past 29 years, the Relay for Life has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising nearly $5 billion to fight cancer.
“Our team is privileged to take part in this wonderful cause, helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We are honored to help our patients and our community by working together to finish the fight and find a cure for cancer. Thank you to everyone involved. You have all put your heart and soul into this endeavor and should be proud. I know I am proud to help guide this wonderful group of individuals,” Laura Herter, HealthAlliance Hospital Oncology Navigator and HealthAlliance Bearly Ables Team Captain.
