Children’s Classic Go Carts Donated to UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital Operating Room
Leominster, MA – Recently, the employees of the UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital Operating Room recognized a need to help minimize the anxiety that their pediatric patients experience during the “pre-operation” phase. Surgery for patients at any age can cause great angst and children are no exception. They quickly came up with an idea to purchase and utilize “Go Cart Wagons” to transport their pediatric patients to the operating room area. Using the “Go Carts” would establish a positive patient experience that is fun and less stressful.
Hearing about the need, a local business and their employees sprung into action to raise money for this worthwhile project. Employees from Research Results Inc. of Fitchburg quickly brainstormed and came up with the idea to establish an online auction for one day only for employees. With dozens of items to bid on the employees raised nearly $1,000 which far exceeded their goal and allowed them to donate additional funds to the Women, Infants & Children department at UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital.
“This opportunity allowed the employees to work as a team, set a goal and ultimately create a positive impact for pediatric patients at UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital. We would like to challenge our fellow small business owners to offer similar projects for their employees as a team building exercise. We are aware that there are many initiatives at the hospital like this one that can use the support of the business community. We look forward to working with the leadership team at the hospital in the months to come,” stated Principal Owner of Research Results, John Zarrella.
Deborah LaPointe, Director for Development and External Affairs at HealthAlliance Hospital said, “John and his team pulled together an amazing small fundraiser that only took one day and ultimately was the brainstorm of the employees. Meeting the health needs of our patients involves partnerships with the community. We can’t do it alone and community partnerships such as the one with Research Results Inc., is certainly invaluable in every way. We are truly grateful for their efforts and encourage other small business to accept their challenge.”
