Mohs Micrographic Surgery Clinic Now Open

Leominster, MA – Recently, Colleen and Wayne Elliot were our first patients to receive Mohs Micrographic Surgery (an advanced surgical treatment for treating common forms of skin cancer) during the grand opening of the clinic on July 6, 2016 at our Leominster Campus. Colleen said: "It was so nice to have the convenience of having a procedure closer to home. The doctors and nurses were super!" Wayne loved having the option of having the procedure done closer to home in Leominster.

If you have been diagnosed with skin cancer, UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital now offers Mohs surgery, a specialized treatment for removal of skin cancer. This method differs from all other methods of treating skin cancer by the use of complete examination of all tissues removed, as well as the ability for the surgeon to track and remove all of the roots and extensions of the skin cancer. The surgery removes skin lesions one layer at a time for immediate examination under a microscope.

Mohs Micgrographic Surgery has a very high cure rate of up to 96 to 99 percent, even when other forms of treatment have failed. The procedure allows for a close examination of each skin layer to detect cancer cells and offers you the highest chance for recovery. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia in our outpatient clinic by our Mohs surgeons located at the UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital Mohs Surgery Clinic on the Leominster campus two days a week.
