Leominster, MA– UMass Memorial Health – HealthAlliance Clinton Hospital today celebrated the opening of a new Multi-Disciplinary Clinic on the Leominster Campus. The Clinic is designed to bring specific specialties to the Northern Worcester County region and allow local patients the ease of access to the specialty care they need closer to home.
Dr. Eric Dickson, MD, president & CEO of UMass Memorial Health, and Steve Roach, president, HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital were joined by a small group of hospital leaders and clinical staff on a tour the new facility.
The brand new clinic has state of the art exam spaces, dedicated staff to meet patients’ needs and skilled providers in each of these specialties: endocrinology, diabetes, cardiology, neurosurgery, spine/anesthesia, rheumatology, oncology, infectious disease and thoracic surgery.
As part of this effort, the North County Medical Office, that includes specialists in many of these areas, recently moved into a new location at the Multi-Disciplinary Clinic. In this new hospital-based clinic, patients will be able to benefit from lifesaving outpatient medications directly from pharmaceutical companies as part of the federal 340B Dug Pricing Program.
“Congratulations to everyone responsible for the opening of the new Multi-Disciplinary Clinic designed to provide chronic disease management services close to where the people in this community live,” said Dr. Eric Dickson, president and CEO, UMass Memorial health. “The success of this effort depends on the commitment of our highly skilled specialists, many of which are Worcester-based, to come to the Leominster Campus to care for the people of this community. This kind of integrated care is the future of UMass Memorial Health and today marks an important first step for replicating this care model across our system.”
“With a vision of creating a Multi-Disciplinary Clinic to address chronic disease in our communities, we turned an underutilized area of the hospital into a state-of-the-art facility to provide these services while breaking down barriers that patients face in accessing care, “said Steve Roach, president, HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital. “Our goal is to provide multiple chronic disease management services locally for North Worcester County residents that have historically had to travel to Worcester.”
The Multi-Disciplinary Clinic will also be the home of the Diabetes Center of Excellence. This new location, an expansion of the Diabetes Center of Excellence located at the UMass Medical Center located in Worcester, is focused on diabetes management to help patients live their healthiest lives. The Center’s care team model includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, behavioral health specialists, and diabetes educators.
“Our goal was to provide multiple chronic disease management services locally for North Worcester County residents that have historically had to travel to Worcester. We are already hearing from patients that they are delighted and relieved to know that they don’t have to travel far for their appointments”, stated Melissa DiLorenzo, Melissa DiLorenzo, Director of Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Services.
