Mary Ann Stein Elected President of Massachusetts Association of Directors of Healthcare Volunteer Services

MARLBOROUGH, MA – Mary Ann Stein, director of volunteer services and community outreach for Marlborough Hospital, is now the 2014-2015 President of the Massachusetts Association of Directors of Healthcare Volunteer Services (MADHVS), a professional society of individuals who are responsible for the administration of Volunteer Services programs in healthcare institutions.

Stein will oversee an eight-person Executive Board, five area chairs, and an association of over 50 members. Prior to her role as President, Stein served as the Area 2 Chair for Central Mass for the past two years, and has been an active member since 2008. When asked about her new MADVHS role, Stein says, “MADHVS and its members have been invaluable to my success in my role as Director of Volunteer Services. Coming from an industry where competitive advantage is gained through trade secrets, I was pleasantly surprised by the willingness to share proven operational practices and the support of the MADHVS members. I am looking forward to working with the MADHVS Board to give back to our members and to establishing Marlborough Hospital as a leader in Volunteer Services through innovation and dedication.”

Stein has served as Marlborough Hospital’s director of volunteer services for the past six years and incorporated community outreach into her job role in 2012. During her tenure, Stein established an Emergency Department Concierge program to assist patients and families, updated volunteer management systems to better track and expedite volunteer recruitment, oversaw the Spiritual Care Team’s renovation of the hospital Chapel and expanded the student volunteer program to include college students. Through her hard work, Stein has increased volunteer numbers to over 150 active members serving over 20,000 hours annually.

“Thanks to Mary Ann’s strong work,” states Ellen Carlucci, vice president of development, marketing and volunteer services at Marlborough Hospital, “there are now more opportunities than ever to volunteer with our community and gain meaningful, transferable experience caring for people’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.”

Volunteers at Marlborough Hospital are dedicated individuals who provide a warm and welcoming environment for patients and families, while sharing their time, talent and enthusiasm.
