Why is 3D mammography important?
Mammography, in general, is important in the early detection of breast cancer. 3D mammography, however, is a state-of-the-art technique which gives radiologists an improved view inside the breast. This new technology produces its images layer by layer. It minimizes overlapping and dense tissue, providing a clearer image for review. The process uses low dose radiation, similar to film or screen mammography, but with improved results. 3D mammography has the ability to detect smaller, earlier stage cancers.
What are the benefits of 3D mammography?
- Earlier detection: Better imaging equates to earlier diagnosis.
- More reliable results: Better imaging makes it easier to distinguish between harmless abnormalities and areas of concern.
- Fewer callbacks: Better imaging leads to fewer repeat mammograms.
