WORCESTER, Mass – Each year Vaillancourt Folk Art of Sutton hosts a performance of the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol,” featuring a one-man performance by Charles Dickens’ great-great-grandson, Gerald Charles Dickens. In addition to providing this quality theatrical performance the organization also gets a chance to demonstrate its appreciation and commitment to local communities by donating all proceeds from the performance’s ticket sales to a local charity. This year Vaillancourt Folk Art has designated the UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center as the beneficiary of their Sunday, November 25 performance. The curtains will go up at 7 pm for that show.
Gerald Charles Dickens strives to keep his great, great grandfather’s holiday classic alive through this wonderfully acclaimed one-man show. During the performance he adopts different voices, expressions, and mannerisms to portray each of the story’s twenty-six characters. The performance is made available to American audiences each year courtesy of the American Christmas Company and Byers’ Choice.
“We are grateful to Vaillancourt Folk Art for thinking of our patients, and the important mission of the Children’s Medical Center in Worcester,” said Scot Bateman, MD, interim chair, Department of Pediatrics at UMass Memorial Medical Center. “I encourage everyone who is available to come out on November 25 for a great show and to help support a worthwhile cause.”
“Christmas should be magical and there is no better way to embrace the spirit of the season than to see Dickens performed by Dickens,” said Luke M. Vaillancourt, vice president of operations at Vaillancourt Folk Art. “It’s a spectacular show in its own right, but considering it’s performed by Charles Dickens’ great-great-grandson really makes it a one of a kind experience. The fact that 100 percent of the proceeds from this performance will directly benefit the Children’s Medical Center aligns it perfectly with the true meaning of Christmas.”
