Statement from Michael Gustafson, MD, on UMass Memorial Medical Center Making the US News & World Report List of Top Hospitals
Worcester, Mass. – Celebrating our successes and recognizing opportunities for improvement are all part of the process of becoming the best place to give care, the best place to get care. US News and World Report, a consumer-focused reporting body, released its Best Hospitals Rankings and Ratings list and our Medical Center earned a Best Regional Hospital recognition, tied for 6th place in the state, and ranked number one in Worcester. Data was analyzed from nearly 5,000 medical centers and more than 30,000 physicians survey responses to rank hospitals. The factors weighed include survival rates, patient safety, specialized staff and hospital reputation. This is an accomplishment our caregivers can be proud of and inspired by, as it speaks to our ongoing commitment to quality improvement.  See the complete report.
Additionally, our Medical Center was recognized as “high-performing” for delivering excellent quality care in five adult procedures or conditions including, aortic valve surgery; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; colon cancer surgery; heart bypass surgery and heart failure. A huge thank you from the bottom of my heart to our caregivers for working hard each day to make a difference in the lives of our patients!
