Kerinna Silvestri DNP, NNP-BC, APRN

Kerinna Silvestri has worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UMass Memorial Medical Center since 2004. She graduated from Boston College School of Nursing in 1999, and she worked as a NICU nurse at both Yale-New Haven Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Kerinna earned her Master of Science (MS) at Northeastern University School of Nursing in 2004 and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the Case Western University School of Nursing in 2008.

Over the past 19 years at UMass Memorial, Kerinna spent the majority of her career in the clinical setting of the NICU attending high-risk deliveries of premature newborns as young as 23 weeks through full term; going on ground transport to community hospitals to stabilize and bring back premature and sick newborns to the UMass Memorial NICU; managing NICU patients and supporting the NICU families; and teaching medical residents, nurses, and nurse practitioner students in the clinical setting. Kerinna has participated in various NICU specific committees, such as pharmacy, transport, and research; has participated in NICU clinical research projects. She has mentored DNP students and has instructor certification for both the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and STABLE program.

Currently, Kerinna is the Neonatal Residency Program coordinator for the medical residents who rotate through the NICU as well as the NICU staff, and she is the APP schedule co-coordinator. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the UConn School of Nursing and a clinical instructor for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program. In addition to the NICU at UMass Memorial, Kerinna also provides direct patient care in the Newborn and Special Care Nurseries at St. Vincent Hospital.
