Advanced Practice Providers

UMass Memorial Health is home to more than 700 advanced practice providers (APPs) working at practices across our system. These highly trained and educated, licensed professionals play a critical role in health care, working both in partnership and independently of physicians to execute a broad array of comprehensive and specialized clinical activities, including diagnosing, treating, and managing a number of medical conditions.

Allergy Overview

Allergies are problems of the immune system. Normally the immune system attacks harmful things such as viruses or bacteria. But sometimes it overreacts and responds to things that are normally harmless. These may include dust, mold, pollen, or food.

Carotid Artery Disease

Carotid artery disease causes a narrowing of the major blood vessels that supply the brain. It is caused by atherosclerosis and can lead to a stroke.

Preventing Obesity in Children, Teens, and Adults

The longer a person is obese, the more they are at risk for problems. Many chronic diseases are linked with obesity. And obesity is hard to treat. Because of these reasons, prevention is very important.

Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy neuromuscular connections. This causes problems with communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles. Myasthenia gravis affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially the eyes, mouth, throat, and limbs.
