Breastfeeding (Lactation) Services

UMass Memorial Medical Center’s lactation service is here to help you establish and maintain a comfortable breastfeeding routine. Breastfeeding is a natural process but takes practice, and we’re here to help you meet your personal goals.

  • Individual lactation services are provided to all breastfeeding mothers daily.
  • Breastfeeding support groups are offered two days per week.
  • Many insurance plans cover the cost of breast pumps for new mothers. Our breast pump coordinators can help you get a pump and check if your insurance covers it. We have different types of pumps available, and you will receive one before you leave the hospital.

We will send you home with helpful information, including a list of community resources to help you along your breastfeeding journey. Our lactation staff is always available, even after you leave the hospital to make sure you have the best breastfeeding experience possible.

For breastfeeding questions and concerns, call 508-334-6455 between 9 am and 5 pm, seven days/week. Messages received after 5 pm will be answered the next day.
