COVID-19 and Flu Requirements for Students and Faculty Clinical Rotations

Note: Due to the dynamic, unprecedented situation of this pandemic, all guidelines on this sheet are subject to change at a moment’s notice.

COVID-19 Requirements

  • Masks are required for all patient encounters in all licensed clinical areas. At this time masks are not required in common areas like the cafeteria.
  • All hand hygiene and infection prevention policies must be strictly followed.
  • No student or faculty should come on-site if they have any COVID-like symptoms.
    • Any student/faculty who has symptoms, must not come to clinical and notify either their school health services or their PCP.
    • Schools must report any positive cases to UMMMC Employee Health Services. Infection Control may be notified for contact tracing.
    • Any student/faculty who tests positive in the clinical area the school/student/faculty must notify UMMMC Employee Health Services if the symptoms occurred 10 days before or 10 days after their clinical rotation ended.
  • Students and Faculty should call Employee Health (EHS) here at UMMMC if they live with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

A close household contact is defined as anyone who lives with the student or faculty. If a family member not living with the caregiver is positive for COVID-19, this would not be considered a close household contact. Students or Faculty should notify UMMMC Employee Health Services if household contact has tested positive for COVID-19. Students and faculty can continue reporting to work as long as they are asymptomatic.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH: 508-793-6400 option #1.

Flu Vaccine

All students and faculty that will be on-site for at least one day during the influenza season (between October 1 and April 30), must report having received the flu vaccine or attest they are declining the vaccine for medical, religious or personal reasons by December 1.

Those caregivers who decline the vaccine must wear a UMMH issued surgical mask at all times while in clinical care areas.
