Advanced Genitourinary Cancer Services We Provide

Our advanced services help you receive the highest level of genitourinary cancer without having to travel far from home. A highly regarded team with decades of expertise in both established and emerging therapies guides your care. Our focus is on effective treatment that helps maintain optimal bladder and sexual function.

Our advanced offerings include: 

• Fusion biopsies: We blend ultrasound and MRI images of the prostate to pinpoint cancerous tissue with greater accuracy. Performing these tests on-site ensures a prompt diagnosis so you can start treatments sooner.
• Robotic surgery: We are the only program in the region using robotic urologic surgery for genitourinary cancers. This approach enables us to remove cancer with incredible accuracy while supporting a quicker, more comfortable recovery.
• Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND): UMass Memorial Medical Center is the only program in the community performing RPLND. This procedure helps us safely determine whether cancer has spread to a difficult-to-reach area in the abdomen.
• High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU): We are the only program in the region offering HIFU for prostate cancer that returns or spreads. This treatment uses high-frequency sound waves to create heat that destroys cancer cells.
• Reconstructive urology: After removing large or deep-seated cancers, we repair vital structures to help maintain your quality of life. Reconstructive procedures may be necessary in complex cases of bladder, penile or kidney cancer.
• Other cancer treatments: You have access to comprehensive genitourinary cancer care, which may also include chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
