The Joy in Childhood Foundation, the charitable foundation supported by Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, will host a “Day of Joy” at UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center to make a special delivery of Joy in Childhood Foundation custom Starlight Gowns. 

Jeff Smith, MD, JD, MMM, executive vice president and chief operating officer of UMass Memorial Medical Center since 2015, was elevated to the role of interim president today. He replaces Patrick Muldoon who announced in November his plans to retire effective January 31.

Worcester – The Winter Ball, the premier fundraising gala supporting the mission of the academic health sciences center formed by UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Medical School crossed the $1,000,000 threshold for the second straight year.

WORCESTER, Mass. – HIMSS Analytics announced UMass Memorial Health Care (UMass Memorial) has achieved Stage 6 recognition. UMass Memorial is the largest healthcare system in Central Massachusetts and has the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center.

WORCESTER, Mass. – UMass Memorial Medical Center is the proud recipient of the 2017 American Heart Association’s Get with The Guidelines - Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Gold Quality Achievement Award. It’s one of only two hospitals in Massachusetts to have earned this designation for its atrial fibrillation program.

UMass Memorial Medical Center honored many of its volunteers on April 26 in observance of National Volunteer Week during a special luncheon held at the Beechwood Hotel, Worcester. Long-time volunteers were recognized for their years and hours of service.

During this last year, 801 volunteers donated 92,000 hours, a significant savings to the Medical Center if employees were to assume volunteers’ duties.

WORCESTER, Mass. – UMass Memorial Medical Center Care has announced that Lisa Colombo, DNP, MHA, RN, has accepted the position of senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at UMass Memorial Medical Center, effective January 19. Colombo was previously president of UMass Memorial Medical Center – Clinton Hospital.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has selected UMass Memorial Medical Center as a Blue Distinction Center+ (plus) for Knee and Hip Replacement, the highest designation in the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated healthcare facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies with input from the medical community.

ST. LOUIS – The Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dana Swenson, PE, MBA, to its Board of Directors. Currently senior vice president and chief facilities officer for UMass Memorial Health Care, Swenson is a leader in the health care industry and an advocate for maintaining the FGI Guidelines as a vital fundamental standard of care for planning and design of the health care built environment.

According to Jody Stark-Cornetta, director of Volunteer Services, last year 800 volunteers donated 84,316 hours, a significant savings to the Medical Center if employees were to assume volunteers’ duties.

State-of-the-Art Scanner Improves Image Clarity, Patient Comfort and Exam Speed
