UMass Memorial Health – HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital Awarded ‘Excellent Health Outcomes for All’ Certification from The Joint Commission
Certification demonstrates HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital’s continued commitment to exceptional and compassionate patient care.
Clinton, MA – UMass Memorial Health — HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital (HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital) is proud to announce that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for the Excellent Health Outcomes for All certification, which is awarded to health care organizations that excel in providing equitable, person-centered care to its communities. HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital is the first UMass Memorial Health entity to achieve this impressive milestone.
Organizations achieve the Excellent Health Outcomes for All Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with rigorous performance standards. The Gold Seal reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and high-quality patient care that reflects each individual’s lived experiences.
“HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital takes its role as a trusted community hospital very seriously, and we are especially focused on ensuring patients have the resources, services, and support they need to be well and thrive,” said Dr. Charles Cavagnaro, President of HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital. “We are honored to be recognized with this prestigious certification, which serves as a testament to the work of our talented caregivers and the level of care they provide every day.”
To achieve this award, the hospital underwent an onsite review where a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated the Hospital’s policies, processes and procedures related to advancing health equity. This includes providing appropriate accommodations to patients with disabilities, screening for Social Drivers of Health (SDOH) and performing adequate follow-up, and tracking quality and safety data to identify and address health disparities among patients.
The Joint Commission’s evaluation standards are developed in consultation with health care leaders and providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess, and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining accountability through our leading survey methods and standards. We commend HealthAlliance-Clinton for its commitment to advance safety, quality, equity, and compassion for all patients.”
In anticipation of the Joint Commission review, HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital worked with caregivers to provide refreshed training and education on hospital and system-wide protocols related to health equity, disability competent care, comprehensive chart documentation, and community engagement.
HealthAlliance-Clinton’s health equity efforts are guided by UMass Memorial Health’s system-wide strategic goals intended to reduce barriers patients face when accessing care, address structural obstacles related to social drivers of health, and limit disparities in health care delivery and outcomes through the regular review of stratified data and action plans.
