UMass Memorial Health Names Jeff Biesczat as Chief Financial Officer

WORCESTER, Mass. — UMass Memorial Health today announced the appointment of Jeff Biesczat as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Biesczat joined the organization in early September and will succeed Sergio Melgar, who plans to retire in January 2027.

Biesczat brings more than 25 years of financial leadership experience across complex, multi-entity organizations. He joins UMass Memorial Health from Endeavor Health, a large integrated health system serving the greater Chicago metropolitan area, where he most recently served as System Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting.

In that role, Biesczat oversaw key financial functions across the enterprise and played a key role in strengthening and modernizing the organization's financial operations. During his 14-year tenure at Endeavor Health, he implemented an enterprise resource planning platform to standardize financial reporting, planning, and decision support, and helped reorganize the finance function to support broader system strategy and future growth.

As CFO, Biesczat will report directly to the CEO and serve as a member of the executive leadership team. He will oversee the system's financial strategy and operations, helping ensure the organization's long-term financial strength while supporting continued growth, innovation, and excellence in patient care.

As UMass Memorial Health prepares for this leadership transition, the health system recognizes Melgar's significant contributions during his 12 years as CFO. His leadership and financial stewardship helped strengthen the organization's financial foundation and supported a period of sustained growth and transformation.
