Transfer: Wheelchair to Chair

Patients who cannot walk are taught to use wheelchairs. For safety, have the therapist show you the correct way to help someone out of a wheelchair.

People who can't walk are taught to use wheelchairs. For safety, have the therapist show you the correct way to help someone out of a wheelchair.

  1. Help the person scoot to the edge of the wheelchair. Be sure the person's feet are under their body. Lift as the person pushes up.
  2. Keep the person's weaker knee between your legs. Pivot the person around in front of the toilet or chair. Lower them gently.
