As the use of artificial intelligence is becoming more prevalent in health care, UMass Memorial Medical Center’s emergency room in Worcester last year quietly became the first level-one trauma center in the United States to implement KATE AI.
Now, after nearly 18 months, UMass Memorial has seen a significant increase in the accuracy of its initial assessment of the severity of patients’ conditions.

Worcester brings mental health crisis treatment on the road
WORCESTER, Mass. - The City of Worcester is taking treatment on the road with a new pilot program for emergency mental health and substance use calls. The Mental Health Community Mobile Crisis Response Pilot Program was developed by UMass Memorial Health’s Community Healthlink, and will use crisis teams to respond directly to the site of a mental health or substance use emergency.

'It's critical to the outcome:' Mental health clinician was on-scene for Friday's police standoff

Holy Cross, UMass Memorial partner on internship program
The Worcester institutions The College of the Holy Cross and UMass Memorial Health, are partnering this summer to offer hands-on experience to students at the Worcester college.
The Summit program’s inaugural cohort includes six Holy Cross students, according to a July 12 communications department story from the Liberal Arts school. Students are participating in an eight-week internship in pediatric medicine at UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center, where they will have the opportunity to shadow hospital rounds, work in medical labs, and analyze data for clinical research.
