Bio
Max Johnson is a certified mindfulness teacher specializing in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), evidence-based programs proven to support stress, anxiety and overall well-being. He has maintained a personal mindfulness meditation practice since 2014 and is formally trained through Brown University.
Max has studied mindfulness meditation across traditions including training with Thai, Lao, Burmese and Sri Lankan monastic teachers, enriching his approach with both clinical and traditional perspectives.
He has supported mindfulness practitioners globally through organizations such as the UMass Center for Mindfulness, Wenham Insight Meditation Center and North Shore Insight Meditation Community among others. His work includes teaching, mentoring meditators and contributing to the development of accessible meditation resources.
In addition to teaching, Max serves as a copyeditor for mindfulness and meditation publications and contributes to educational tools for studying the Pāli language, deepening access to early Buddhist texts.
Before transitioning to mindfulness education, Max worked for 14 years as a classroom teacher in diverse environments including public schools, therapeutic programs and juvenile detention settings. This experience informs his compassionate and inclusive teaching style.
Outside of his professional work, Max enjoys sports, translating meditation texts and spending time in nature.
