Christopher Marshall, MD

Christopher Marshall, MD, is currently the Clinical Chief of Gastroenterology at UMass Memorial Medical Center, having assumed this permanent role in 2021. Prior to this he served in multiple leadership roles within the division, including Associate Chief of Gastroenterology and Ambulatory Physician Leader. As Chief, he sits on multiple committees at the Medical Center, including chairing the Nutrition Advisory Committee and the Endoscopy Patient Experience Committee. He also co-leads the Digestive Disease Center, a new collaboration between the Department of Surgery and Department of Medicine.

Christopher is a lifelong member of the UMass Memorial community. He graduated from UMass Chan Medical School in 2004 and stayed to complete his residency, chief residency and gastroenterology fellowship at UMass Memorial. Joining the faculty in 2011, he has practiced in various clinical roles across the system, including the Medical Center; HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital, Clinton Campus; Marlborough Hospital and Harrington Hospital. He is active at the Medical School, not only teaching both GI physiology and nutrition, but also serving as a course director and mentor, having received the Educational Achievement Star Award on multiple occasions. As Clinical Chief he has committed to faculty and leadership to expand services across the health system to meet the needs of our patients and caregivers. He supports his faculty as clinical innovators as they deliver quality care and help develop new clinical programs.

Dr. Marshall’s passion is academic medicine and he sees the vital role academic clinicians play in the development and recruitment of the future leaders in medicine.
