The Republican budget bill that passed the House last week would cause health care chaos and a massive transfer of wealth to the rich, Massachusetts’ leading Democrats argued Tuesday as the party mobilized a nationwide bid to derail the legislation.

The 129th Boston Marathon won’t be John Kelly’s first rodeo.

“This will be my second Boston," Kelly said. "I ran Boston last year as well for the ALS fund. I've run probably, I don’t know, 20 plus marathons.”

United Way of North Central Massachusetts (UWNCM) also recently distributed $40,000 to four agencies as part of the second phase of its Determination of Need initiative, funded by a grant from UMass Memorial Clinton Hospital.

The UMass Memorial gift, in partnership with University of Massachusetts Foundation, establishes new endowed chairs which support efforts to impact more patients across the region.

Worcester-based behavioral healthcare provider Community Healthlink has received a $208,000 grant from the City of Worcester for its Shower Program, which is part of CHL’s Homeless Outreach and Advocacy Project.

Eighteen Central Massachusetts nonprofits have been granted a combined $1.4 million from Worcester-based UMass Memorial Health in partnership with Shields Health in Quincy.
