Pre-Employment Requirements
Employment Eligibility Verification
- The Form I-9, or Employment Eligibility Verification, to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment.
Background Checks
- Massachusetts Criminal Offense Record Information (CORI)
- An Adam Walsh CORI check may be required for certain roles and would be noted on job postings.
- A Massachusetts Department of Development Services CORI may be required for certain roles and would be noted on job postings.
- National criminal background checks
- Medicare Sanctions and Exclusions List check
Employment and Reference Verifications
- Employment verifications: All previous employment will be verified.
- Professional reference checks: May be required based on the role.
Licensure and Certificate Verification
If a job requires a license or certification, we will verify it according to licensing rules.
Vaccination and Health Screening
Pre-Employment Health and Drug Screening
- Annual compliance: Employees must comply with our Influenza Vaccination (flu vaccine) Reporting Policy.
- COVID-19 Immunization (vaccination) Reporting Policy: Compliance is required for all employees.
- Other immunization requirements: Employees must comply with other mandatory immunizations.
Education Verification
Degree Verification
- Documentation: Degree and any accompanying documents must be provided in English.
- International Education: Applicants with an international education must complete an education credential evaluation before applying to UMass Memorial.
International Education Evaluation
Recommended International Education Evaluation Services if an evaluation has not already been completed:
- Center for Educational Documentation (CED):
- On the CED website, complete the CED evaluation application form in its entirety and make sure to select General Evaluation under the Type of Service area.
- Under mailing instructions, select Email to Institution and include the following details:

- World Education Services (WES):
- Applicants may create a World Education Services (WES) account by visiting the WES website’s login page. Select the document-by-document evaluation option to ensure that your evaluation meets our requirements for employment consideration.
- To ensure that UMass Memorial Health receives an official copy of your evaluation, select it from the dropdown box and add it as a recipient.
