Crowley and Stimpson Families Advance Pediatric Care With a Transformative Gift
The Crowley family has long played an important role in the growth and success of Central Massachusetts. Through their leadership of Polar Beverages and Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, and as minority owners of the Worcester Red Sox, siblings Ralph Crowley Jr., Carolyn Crowley Stimpson, Chris Crowley and Jeff Crowley — along with their spouses Joan, John, Betsy, and Maureen — have helped shape the region's business and community landscape.
Investing in the Future of Children's Health
The Crowleys and Stimpsons are now helping advance another one of the region’s vital institutions with a transformative $1 million gift to support UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center.
“Central Massachusetts is our family’s home and has been for generations,” says Ralph. “We know how important the Children’s Medical Center is to kids and families in our communities and so we are proud to support those who are taking care of our family, friends and neighbors, as well as our valued employees and business partners when they need it most.”
Each year, the Children’s Medical Center provides expert, compassionate and innovative care to more than 38,000 infants, children and adolescents in Central Massachusetts and beyond, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. The demand for the care we offer is great, as we are the only children’s hospital in the entire region.
The generous gift from the Crowleys and Stimpsons will support various care programs, support services and medical equipment within the Children’s Medical Center, specifically ones that are not reimbursable by private or public insurance. An example is the Child Life Program, which helps families cope with potentially stressful healthcare situations and makes each child’s visit a little more comfortable and a lot less frightening.
“We recognize that children have a more difficult time than adults do when faced with a health emergency or experience,” says Carolyn, “so we are delighted to help ensure that critical Child Life Specialists and services continue to be available for kids at the Children’s Medical Center.”
The Child Life Program uses age-appropriate activities like animal-assisted therapy, Robin the Robot, medical play and music therapy.
“For generations, UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center has been at the heart of keeping our city's children healthy and thriving,” says Ralph. “My family and I are honored to support the pediatric specialists who are taking care of those who represent the future of Worcester and Central Massachusetts.”
