Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
UMass Memorial Excellence in Emergency Medical Services
Level I Trauma Center
UMass Memorial Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons as the only Level I trauma center for adults and children in Central Massachusetts. This designation recognizes our commitment to providing the highest level of care for acute illness and traumatic injuries. We deliver outstanding services for the most severe and life-threatening conditions.
Rapid Response
Our ground ambulances have technologies that allow paramedics and EMTs to receive real-time information from dispatch. This capability gives first responders essential information about the emergency so that no time is lost when they arrive on the scene. Automatic vehicle locators make it easier for call center specialists to send the closest ambulance to the emergency, further expediting our response.
Critical Care Transport
Our fleet of ground ambulances have oxygen, heart monitors and other lifesaving equipment. UMass Memorial is also home to the region’s only air ambulance, Life Flight. This helicopter service quickly transports our sickest patients and people from great distances. Our first responders deliver pre-hospital care and communicate with emergency department staff so that they can start helping you the moment you arrive at the hospital.
