Volunteer Services

Volunteering is a wonderful way to gain exposure to the medical community, explore careers, enhance your knowledge and give back to UMass Memorial Health. We offer unique volunteer programs for both adults and teens. Through volunteering, you’ll find a challenging and satisfying experience while performing a valuable service to the staff and a warm and caring environment for patients and their families.

Our volunteers are highly valued members of our team and are vitally important to patient satisfaction, care and recovery. Many of our volunteers are retirees looking for a sense of satisfaction and excitement by being part of a well-known health system, while others are college or high school students exploring career possibilities. Volunteers may also be looking for a learning experience before going to work for the first time, or back to work after time away.

Our Volunteer Programs

We offer volunteer programs, tailored to fit your different schedules and commitments.

Student Summer Program

This program is primarily for students who will be returning to school in the fall and want to complete volunteer hours during the summer. The program requires to complete 80 hours of volunteering over the summer, typically completed with two 4-hour shifts per week.

Note: The deadline for the Student Summer Program was May 31. Check back for the summer program in 2026. 

Student School Year Program

For students who can commit to volunteering during the school year, this program requires a minimum commitment of one 4-hour shift per week throughout the school year. This program remains open and accepting new volunteers.

Year-Round Volunteer Program

For individuals no longer in school who can commit to volunteering year-round, we offer a program requiring a weekly commitment of one 4-hour hour shift for a minimum of 1 year. This option is ideal for those looking to contribute regularly over a full year.
