What Is a Liver Transplant?

During liver transplant surgery, we remove your liver and replace it with a healthy donor liver. If you’ve been told you may need a liver transplant, you may be feeling overwhelmed. • Addiction medicine: Our alcohol use disorder (AUD) program provides support for people living with liver disease related to alcohol or substance use.
• Cardiology: Receive evaluation and care if we identify cardiovascular issues during your liver transplant evaluation.
• Endocrinology and metabolism: We provide care and referrals for obesity, diabetes and metabolic conditions.
• Gastroenterology and hepatology: Specialists care for people living with advanced liver conditions, including those who may not yet meet transplant criteria but need higher-level care.
• Liver cancer: A comprehensive team cares for hepatocellular carcinoma and other liver cancers, which may help some people qualify for transplant.
• Mental health: Our dedicated transplant psychiatrist offers additional mental health support and referrals.
