Vascular and Endovascular Surgery

Vascular surgeons offer advanced care for common and complex blood vessel diseases.

Care From the Region’s Top Vascular Surgeons

At UMass Memorial Health, our board-certified vascular surgeons specialize in surgical and endovascular treatments for blood vessel conditions. They offer the advanced care you expect from a major academic medical center, with a personalized approach. Vascular surgeons collaborate with heart surgeons, interventional radiologists and other experts to build a treatment plan for your needs.

Vascular Conditions We Treat

We’re known throughout Central Massachusetts and well beyond for our ability to treat the most complex vascular diseases with excellent outcomes. In addition to providing 24/7 emergency services, we evaluate and treat:

Our Vascular and Endovascular Treatments and Services

Our vascular surgeons have experience in both open and endovascular techniques. No matter which type of procedure is best for you, the experts at UMass Memorial Health can help.

  • Open vascular surgery involves larger incisions and a longer recovery but can offer better long-term outcomes for some conditions.
  • Endovascular surgery is minimally invasive. We use catheters (thin tubes) to fix blood vessel problems, sometimes a better approach for people who can’t tolerate a major operation.

Advanced Vascular Testing

We offer the latest vascular imaging technology, including noninvasive duplex ultrasounds, CT scans, angiograms and abdominal aortic aneurysm screenings. Many tests are conveniently available at our community hospitals and clinics close to where you live and work. All of our patients have access to more specialized tests at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Center for Complex Aortic Disease

Our surgeons treat all types of aortic aneurysms, including those considered complex. This means ones that involve the aorta and the branches that bring blood to vital organs, such as the kidneys and intestines. We are one of a few centers in the U.S. who can treat complex aortic diseases using less invasive techniques. Learn more about our Center for Complex Aortic Disease

Limb Preservation Center

A multispecialty team works together to prevent lower limb amputation in people with diabetes and peripheral artery disease. We offer advanced revascularization procedures (to help restore blood flow in blocked arteries) and clinical trials for new devices and therapies. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) Treatment

We offer comprehensive care for TOS, a condition caused by compressed blood vessels or nerves in your chest. The Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at UMass Memorial Health is one of only a few TOS programs in the region offering care for all three types of TOS.  Learn how we treat thoracic outlet syndrome

Vein Center

Our outpatient Vein Center makes it easy to get treatment for varicose veins, venous stasis ulcers and other venous diseases, including chronic venous insufficiency and pelvic congestion syndrome. We offer a range of in-office procedures, as well as more advanced treatments in our cardiac catheterization lab at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Learn more about our Vein Center

Carotid Artery Disease Treatment

We help reduce your risk of stroke from carotid artery disease. Vascular surgeons offer:

Lower Extremity Revascularization

Our vascular surgeons offer open and endovascular procedures for peripheral artery disease. We offer:

National Accreditation for Noninvasive Vascular Testing

Our vascular lab has accreditation in vascular testing from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). Approval from the IAC demonstrates that we meet the highest quality standards for patient care, testing equipment and staff training.

Why Choose Us for Vascular Care?

Leading-Edge Treatments

Our vascular surgeons were the first in the U.S. to do minimally invasive aortic aneurysm repair with a technology that reduces radiation exposure during the procedure. This approach is safer for the patient and staff.

Hybrid Operating Room

State-of-the-art surgical equipment and intraoperative imaging in our hybrid OR allow us to perform open and endovascular procedures in a single setting. This hybrid approach benefits high-risk patients who need complex procedures.

Vascular Clinical Trials

We participate in vascular clinical trials to investigate the newest treatments, such as a stent-graft that can help people with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (severely blocked blood flow to your legs and feet) avoid amputation. Trials can offer people without other treatment options a better quality of life.
