At UMass Memorial Health, you’ll find the latest diagnostic tools for common and complex heart conditions. A collaborative team of experienced cardiologists, radiologists and cardiac sonographers perform and interpret your tests. 

Many routine tests are conveniently available at our community hospitals and outpatient offices throughout Central Massachusetts. Advanced testing is available at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Testing and Imaging for Heart Disease

Many routine tests are conveniently available at our community hospitals and multispecialty outpatient clinics:

• Blood tests: Checks for high cholesterol or other signs of heart disease
• Chest X-ray: Shows the size and shape of your heart and lungs
• Duplex ultrasound: Creates moving images of blood moving through veins and arteries
• Echocardiogram (echo): Uses ultrasound to show how well your heart works
• Electrocardiogram (ECG): Measures your heart’s electrical activity
• Holter monitor: Records your heart’s rhythm with a wearable device
• Implantable loop recorder: A small device that goes under your skin to monitor your heart activity
• Stress test: Evaluates how the heart works during physical activity

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening 

Our cardiologists determine your risk for an abdominal aortic aneurysm and recommend a screening test if necessary. Detecting and treating an aneurysm early can save your life. Learn more about abdominal aortic aneurysm screening.

Advanced Cardiac Imaging

We offer the latest noninvasive and minimally invasive imaging procedures to diagnose heart and vascular conditions. Our Medical Center is the only facility in Central Massachusetts to offer cardiac MRI. Our cardiac CT machine is faster and uses half the radiation of the machines used at most other hospitals.
