Our Research
The physicians at UMass Memorial’s Eye Center are actively engaged in innovative research projects in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School. Our aim is to better understand the diseases that cause blindness in order to develop new treatments to prevent vision loss and restore eyesight.
This means that you benefit from the very latest diagnostic and treatment options for eye diseases that come from this research.
Through our partnership with UMass Chan Medical School, we perform both basic research and clinical trials:
- Basic research focuses on expanding our knowledge of how and why eye diseases occur in order to develop novel treatments
- Clinical trials are research studies in which patients participate to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of medications, surgical techniques or medical devices to treat a condition
