Our Pharmacy Residency Program prioritizes pharmacy resident wellness through a variety of structured and flexible support initiatives designed to promote balance and professional success, including:
- Two dedicated resident wellness days (November and April) to support time away from clinical responsibilities and encourage class bonding
- Competitive paid time off, including vacation, holidays, sick leave and personal days
- Scheduled project days throughout the year to improve workload balance
- A formal mentorship program focused on both professional development and resident well-being
- A resident-led Director of Fun leadership role, responsible for organizing monthly social events
At this time, candidates applying to our Pharmacy Residency Program must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application to be eligible.
Our Pharmacy Residency Program offers comprehensive resident support resources to ensure success, including:
- A dedicated pharmacy residency mentor for individualized guidance
- PGY1 program representatives who follow each resident's progress
- Formal quarterly check-ins with Pharmacy Residency Program leadership (directors and coordinators)
- An open-door policy with program leadership
- Access to a robust Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through UMass Chan Medical School
- Monthly pharmacy resident touchpoints with program leadership
- Opportunities to attend research and professional development seminars
Residents in our Pharmacy Residency Program gain valuable leadership experience through structured roles and hands-on opportunities, including:
- Residency class leadership positions, such as:
- Chief Resident
- Recruitment and Orientation Chair
- Class Secretary
- Director of Fun
- Active participation in health system and hospital committees
- Engagement in layered learning models, allowing residents to develop teaching, mentoring and leadership skills during clinical rotations
Yes. PGY1 Pharmacy Residents may have the opportunity to early commit to a PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Program, based on the discretion of the PGY2 Residency Program Director. Historically, many residents have successfully transitioned into PGY2 programs through early commitment.
