UMass Memorial Health Community Benefits Programs
Our Commitment to Our Community
Our Commitment to Our Community
We engage with children and adults in our local neighborhoods through our Community Benefits programs, initiatives and services. Driven by our mission to serve, we help people of all ages enjoy healthier lives.
Our Community Benefits programs are designed to address the most pressing issues affecting a specific area. Each hospital assesses the needs of the people in their region and develops tailored public health services that will have a meaningful impact, now and in the future.
We make a difference in our community by forging partnerships, focusing on individual needs and providing educational resources to enhance the well-being of those we serve. We also address some of the challenges people face on the road to better health. These include access to nutritious food, reliable health care, mental health services and routine wellness screenings.

Community Benefits Programs at UMass Memorial Health Hospitals
Our Community Benefits programs focus on serving vulnerable and medically underserved populations. Our team identifies each focus population through a comprehensive assessment and planning process. We develop programs focusing on providing medical care and addressing the many nonmedical factors negatively affecting wellness. We work together to improve community health from many angles.

What Are Community Benefits?
Community Benefits are programs and services that nonprofit hospitals provide to improve the health of the community. These programs and services focus on the needs of that particular community. The programs address health disparities and gaps in care among disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.
Community Benefits programs have several objectives, including to:
- Advance medical or health knowledge among the community
- Enhance the health and wellness of people of all ages
- Improve access to health care services, including routine medical screenings
Hospitals and health care systems collaborate with community organizations, social agencies, government agencies and public health partners to offer Community Benefits programs. They work together to plan, fund and implement programs that help people live healthier.
