Why Donate to the Marlborough Campus?

Donations to the Marlborough Campus strengthen care and allow patients who are living and working in Marlborough and neighboring communities to stay close to family, support systems and home.

The Marlborough Campus is committed to providing:

  • Advanced care: Your gift helps drive the latest innovations and technology that enable us to offer life-changing health care.
  • Convenient services: We have an expert team, the latest technologies and access to the full spectrum of care, all close to where our patients live and work.
  • Continuity of care: As a campus of UMass Memorial Medical Center, we provide seamless collaboration among the care teams. It’s easy to transfer between campuses and access the knowledgeable specialists and innovative treatments our patients need.

Marlborough Campus: Our Priority Projects

Your generous donation allows us to continue innovating and providing advanced, research-backed care to our community. Our current projects include:

ED and Specialty Care Expansion

UMass Memorial Health is undertaking a $36 million expansion of the Emergency Department (ED) and specialty care and investing in new imaging technology at the Marlborough Campus. The ED expansion is part of a broader investment that includes a multidisciplinary clinic designed to support patients with chronic and complex health needs — helping prevent emergency visits when possible and improving care coordination. This initiative will:

  • Enhance patient care, experience and outcomes
  • Reduce wait times
  • Provide a healing environment for patients and their families
  • Offer specialized, innovative care closer to home

Our plans include:

Expand ED Capacity

We plan to increase the ED to include 23 treatment rooms, up from 13. Our ED operates at 100% capacity most days. An expanded ED will nearly double the number of patient rooms. It will also feature new treatment rooms, including convertible rooms for patients of all sizes and two new trauma rooms.

New Multidisciplinary Clinic

We are developing a $6 million clinic, dedicated to caring for people with chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, kidney disease and more. Research shows that patients feel more supported when they receive care from a well-coordinated team. Health care professionals from various specialties will work together to provide patients with seamless, whole-person care close to home.

Spectral CT System

Pending regulatory approval, this sophisticated $4 million CT scanning system will provide sharper images, supporting more precise detection of tumors, fractures and heart disease. It also scans patients faster, leading to prompt diagnoses of strokes and other conditions that require timely care.

Advanced Cancer Care: Proton Therapy

Since 2013, patients have relied on the Marlborough Campus for comprehensive cancer care. Providing radiation therapy and medical oncology services right here on our campus allows patients to receive expert treatment close to home. Proton therapy represents a significant expansion of these established services. As an addition to our Cancer Center, it builds on a strong foundation of oncology care while introducing one of the most advanced forms of targeted radiation therapy available today.

UMass Memorial is building the first proton therapy service in Central Massachusetts and only the second in New England. Proton therapy is targeted radiation therapy for cancer. It delivers precise doses of radiation to tumors while minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. This precision typically leads to fewer side effects and improved quality of life during and after treatment. The need for this type of therapy is increasing but not widely available.

Proton therapy can be especially beneficial to adults with complex or recurrent cancers near sensitive organs, such as brain and spinal cord tumors, head and neck cancers, gynecologic cancers, and cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, liver and pancreas.

People undergoing proton therapy require daily treatment, and many already receive cancer care at our Marlborough Campus. Expanding services here reduces travel and financial burdens while allowing patients to remain with the care teams they know and trust. Bringing this innovative technology to our established Cancer Center allows us to:

  • Expand access to lifesaving care
  • Reduce travel and financial burdens for families needing advanced, precise cancer care
  • Improve health equity by making this advanced treatment available to everyone in our communities
