Emergency Radiology
What to Expect From Our Emergency Department Imaging Services
Level I Trauma Center
UMass Memorial Medical Center maintains accreditation from the American College of Surgeons as the only Level I trauma center for adults and children in Central Massachusetts. This designation recognizes our commitment to the highest level of care for acute illness and traumatic injuries. As a Level I trauma center, we offer the most sophisticated imaging equipment in the region.
On-Site Radiologists Who Are Always Available
Attending imaging specialists with advanced training in emergency radiology are on site and available 24/7. Radiologists and the equipment they use to interpret scans are physically located within the emergency department. This level of expertise leads to quick readings with a high degree of accuracy and ensures the fastest time to treatment.
Quick Scans for Chest Pain
Some UMass Memorial emergency departments offer coronary CT angiogram (CTA). This scan helps us quickly confirm or rule out narrowed or blocked arteries as a cause of chest pain. This test is typically available in outpatient imaging centers. We are one of the few programs in the region offering access right from the emergency department.
