Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) evaluates infants, toddlers, and children 7 months to 5 years of age with a variety of developmental and behavioral concerns:

• Autism spectrum disorders
• Communication delays
• Developmental delays
• Speech and language delays
• Social difficulties
• Growth and nutrition problems

We see patients at the University Campus in Worcester. Referral and intake forms are available below. You can complete them as indicated and mail them to:

Growth and Nutrition Clinic

For children birth to 6 years old who are losing weight, have a very slow weight gain or are failing to thrive. This is a multidisciplinary clinic that includes child psychology, pediatric nutrition, social work, nurse case manager, and is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Zero-to-Three Program

We provide diagnostic evaluations for children birth to 36 months of age with concerns of:

• Autism Spectrum Disorder – in addition to clinical evaluations, our team accepts referrals (RITA-T)
• Behavioral problems
• Developmental delays, including language, motor, cognitive and global developmental delays
• Developmental delays, related to genetic syndromes

Three-to-Five Program

We provide diagnostic evaluations for children 37 months of age to 5 years of age with concerns of:

• Autism spectrum disorders
• Behavioral problems (e.g., aggression, hyperactivity) probably secondary to Developmental delays and/or Autism
• Developmental delays: language, motor, cognitive and global developmental delays
• Difficulties with social interactions
• Developmental delays, related to genetic syndromes.

Note: We are not currently accepting school-age patients. 

Proactive steps you can take

• Request a school evaluation (education, psychology, speech and occupational therapy) for learning and educational concerns.
• Request referrals for additional speech and occupational therapy services through your insurance for private speech and occupational therapy
• Request referrals to neuropsychology for testing for cognitive, ADHD, and processing concerns. Some groups offer autism evaluations in older children as well.
• If there are anxiety issues or mental health concerns for children older than 10 years of age, request a referral to psychiatry or MCPAP if an urgent medication consultation is needed.
• If you have behavioral concerns about your school-age child (6 to 18 years old), request an assessment for ADHD and use suggested referrals above. You can also request a referral for counseling in your area.
