Historical Timeline
1888 - Memorial Hospital opens in Worcester.
1889 - Clinton Hospital opens.
1890 - Burbank Hospital opens in Fitchburg.
1896 - Hahnemann Hospital opens in Worcester.
1903 - Miford Hospital opens.
1912 - Leominster Hospital opens.
1931 - Harrington Hospital opens in Southbridge.
1974 - University of Massachusetts Teaching Hospital opens in Worcester, part of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
1977 - Community Healthlink opens in Worcester.
1988 - Memorial Hospital and Hahnemann Hospitals merge.
1989 - Memorial Hospital and Hahnemann Hospital renamed the Medical Center of Central Massachusetts.
1994 - Leominster Hospital merged with Burbank Hospital to become HealthAlliance Hospital.
1995 - Marlborough Hospital affiliated with Worcester City Campus Corporation (WCCC) a health system that included, and was controlled by, the academic medical center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
1996 - Clinton Hospital affiliated with the Worcester City Campus Corporation (WCCC) a health system that included, and was controlled by, the academic medical center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
1996 - Medical Center of Central Massachusetts changed name to Memorial Health Care.
1998 - University of Massachusetts's clinical system (WCCC) merged with Memorial Health Care, to become UMass Memorial Health Care, with the following hospitals:
- UMass Memorial Medical Center
- University Campus, Memorial Campus, Hahnemann Campus
- Clinton Hospital
- Marlborough Hospital
1998 - HealthAlliance Hospital joined UMass Memorial Health Care.
1998 - Community Healthlink joined UMass Memorial Health Care.
1998 - UMass Memorial Medical Group was formed from the joining of UMass Medical School’s community and hospital practice groups with Memorial Health Care’s community and hospital practice groups.
2017 - UMass Memorial – Clinton Hospital merged with UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital, to form UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital.
2021 - UMass Memorial Health Care rebranded as UMass Memorial Health.
2021 - Harrington Hospital joined UMass Memorial Health to become UMass Memorial Health – Harrington.
2024 - Milford Regional Medical Center joined UMass Memorial Health, becoming UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional.
2026 - Marlborough Hospital is set to merge with the UMass Memorial Medical Center, becoming a campus under its license.
2026 - Pending construction, UMass Memorial Health will open a Satellite Emergency Facility in Groton.
