Reappointment Schedule, Timing, Volume

Reappointments within the UMass Memorial Healthcare System run on a standardized schedule.

First reappointment after initial appointment will be the last day of your birth month in the year furthest out without exceeding 24 months (MA Board of Medicine and Joint Commission require reappointment occurs no later than 24 months from prior appointment).  

Examples:  Initial appointment June 2021, Birth Month May.  Reappointment = May 2023

              Initial appointment June 2021, Birth Month August.   Reappointment = August 2022

After the first reappointment, all subsequent reappointments will be 24 months apart in your birth month.

You will be sent a prepopulated reappointment application by email approximately 6 months prior to your scheduled renewal.   This will allow time for your response and for Medical Staff Services to process your reappointment including through required committees.

LOW VOLUME

If you have had low volume of activity, at the time of reappointment you may be requested to do one or more of the following:

• demonstrate your current clinical competence by providing the names of three peer references who can attest to your competence.    
• provide quality data from your primary affiliation if it is not UMMMC.
• Change your staff category to Active Referring (appointment to the Medical Staff but with no clinical privileges)
