Types of Transplants Offered at UMass Memorial

Because we focus exclusively on five types of transplant procedures, our transplant team has acquired deep experience that translates into excellent patient outcomes. In fact, today UMass Memorial is one of the largest and most successful transplant programs in New England based on how well our patients do.

Here’s an overview of the types of transplants we perform:

Adult kidney transplants

This highly successful surgical procedure places a healthy kidney from a deceased or living donor into the body of a patient suffering from renal (kidney) failure. Since UMass Memorial began performing kidney transplants in adults, many people have received this gift of life to help them live longer, healthier lives.

Equally important, our adult kidney transplant program is one of the most highly ranked in the entire state.

The UMass Memorial Transplant Program provides expert care for patients experiencing liver failure, including when it occurs as a result of hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer). Our multidisciplinary team of liver transplant specialists performs deceased donor transplants with an exceptional success rate.
